CANON 4 MEMBERSHIP OF PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCILS
Procedure for elections
1. Elections must be preceded by nominations. Two full weeks of prayer must be given after the nominations,
before elections. This is the only time for any disqualifications or referrals.
2. Elections may be by secret ballot or by open ballot, provided that adequate provision and enlightment have
been made.
3. The election meeting must be preceded by a service of Holy Communion.

1. Personal character
Ø Personally committed to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ø Good Christian testimony outside.
Ø Self-controlled; not given to drunkenness; not quarrelsome or quick-tempered.
Ø Not in any society that contradicts the gospel of Christ.
2. Family Life
Ø Should be faithfully married; known to be the husband of one wife / wife of one husband.
Ø If widowed, must be seen to live a pure and respectable life that is above reproach.
Ø Must manage own family well and command obedience and proper respect. Whoever cannot manage his own
family cannot lead God's people aright.
Ø The case of a divorcee or polygamist must be considered on its individual merits and referred to the Bishop.
3. Church Involvement
Ø Must be positively committed to the local congregation both morally and financially (record of financial
obligations to be verified) and a contributor to church projects.
Ø Must be more than a Sunday-Sunday member.
Note: It must be remembered that if the people are not taught in good time there will be problems. The above
guidelines must be taught and understood by the Church long before the P.C.C. Elections. By this means we
hope to have godly people from the grass roots up to the highest positions in the Church.
