About the crisis in Jos, plateau state, Nigeria, there will be versions and many news media -in a hurry to report events -
may not give an accurate story. The Anglican Diocese of Jos was there on the scene as most of the events unfolded.
Christians were going to or coming from their various church services on Sunday morning, when near St Michael’s Roman
Catholic Church in Nassarawa, Jos, about 200 Muslim youths who had been working on a building site began molesting the
Christians who were passing by. It was then revealed that some of these youths were wearing military uniforms and were
armed with machetes and guns. They blocked the road and tension rose when the Christians tried to force their way along the
main street. A fracas ensued and the police were quickly called in and the youths left, just to regroup later and the mayhem
against the church started.
Because there was a more sinister agenda by the moslems, from Sunday the 17 to Tuesday 19 January, coordinated attacks
on Christian homes, businesses and indeed churches were carried out. The use of guns and firebombs, showed the objective
of the moslems. They aimed at particular targets; churches and specific communities, with the aim of not only killing Christians
but also to take over their entire settlements using force; to make the entire area inhabitable for the Christians.
This plans started from the Sept. 11, 2001 attack to the November 28 2008 crisis as a calculated and coordinated invasion of
these same particular communities.
While the agenda is to destroy Christians and any Christian activities, it also serves the dual purpose of discrediting the
government and making it look impotent.
We urge Christians all over the world to pray for Jos, and pray that God will give us all the enablement to show love to the very
people who have killed our sons, daughters and relations and destroyed lives and property and our places of worship.
Forgiveness is the focus. One thing we know. We are committed Christians. We will continue to be that which our Lord Jesus
Christ wants us to b; loving and caring Evangelists.
